Meet Hon. Purity Kendi Gitonga
Hon. Purity Kendi Gitonga is a Laikipia leader whose public-service journey has included community engagement, advocacy for vulnerable groups and service delivery within the Society. Born and raised in a humble village, her early life was shaped by resilience, determination, and the realities of rural living. Long walks to fetch water and firewood, coupled with trips to school carrying a self-made sling bag, exposed her to the stark inequalities that exist within society. Along those paths, one question continued to shape her perspective: Why do such disparities exist? Determined not to let her humble beginnings define the limits of her ambitions, she defied the odds to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, followed by a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship. However, her pursuit of education has never been solely about personal advancement. It is driven by a deeper desire to understand the root causes of social inequality and the widening gap between the privileged and the disadvantaged. At the heart of her journey is a profound commitment to uplifting those often overlooked by society. Her ambition is not merely to rise, but to create opportunities for others to rise alongside her. Guided by the conviction that meaningful progress can only be achieved when no one is left behind, she remains committed to building a more equitable society where people support one another and work collectively to address social injustices. For her, success is not measured by how far one rises alone, but by how many others are empowered to rise along the way. Her story is a testament to the power of humble beginnings, the pursuit of knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to creating a society where opportunity and dignity are within everyone’s reach. Her areas of interest include women's and boychild empowerment, youth opportunity, inclusion of vulnerable people, accessible public services, entrepreneurship and stronger participation of communities in decisions that affect their lives. For her, representation is not only about occupying an office. It is about ensuring that citizens can understand government programmes, access available opportunities and have a meaningful voice in public affairs. The next chapter of her leadership is centred on listening, accountability, inclusion and practical solutions for the people of Laikipia.
